I am learning to abandon the world
Beautiful…
I am learning to abandon the worldbefore it can abandon me.Already I have given up the moonand snow, closing my shadesagainst the claims of white. And the world has takenmy father, my friends.I have given up melodic lines of hills, moving to a flat, tuneless landscape. And every night I give my body uplimb by limb, working upwardsacross bone, towards the heart. But morning comes with smallreprieves of coffee and birdsong.A tree outside the windowwhich was simply shadow moments agotakes back its branches twigby leafy twig. And as I take my body backthe sun lays its warm muzzle on my lapas if to make amends.
